“…These results indicated that species belonging to these trophic categories feed on resources from the forest rather than on aquatic macrophytes. The study by Oliveira (2003) regarding the isotopes of carbon and nitrogen in C. macropomum has highlighted the importance of food from the forest in the diet of this species, even during the drought period.…”

“…Seston was chosen as the third source because several studies have concluded that phytoplankton is the main primary source for fi sh (Araújo-Lima et al, 1986;Hamilton et al, 1992;Forsberg et al, 1993;Benedito-Cecílio et al, 2000 andLewis et al, 2001). Due to a fractional contribution of each food source to the consumer's diet, these end-members were corrected according to fractioning values of 2.5 ‰ per trophic level for δ 15 N and 1 ‰ for δ 13 C, as calculated by Oliveira (2003). For each fi sh species, the trophic level corrections of the energy sources were based on results of stomach content analyses, which indicated either direct ingestion (one trophic level) or indirect ingestion (two trophic levels) of each end-member.…”

“…Considering a fractionation of 3% between diet and nail, the mass balance cal- C of this item is one found for cassava flour that is main type of food used in rural areas of Amazon (Murrieta and Dufour, 2004). 3 We used average values provided by Oliveira (2003). 4 We assumed that all sugar and sweeteners had C 4 origin (sugar cane).…”
