(Isopropylamino)(methyl)diphenylphosphonium iodide

Abstract: The title compound, C16H21NP+·I−, was obtained by the reaction of Ph2PN(iPr)P(Ph)N(iPr)H with MeI involving cleavage of one of the P—N bonds in diethyl ether. The two phenyl rings form a dihedral angle of 82.98 (5)°. A weak donor–acceptor N—H⋯I interaction is observed.

“…The cation contains a pseudotetrahedral phosphonium atom with angles around the central atom between 105.4(1) and 113.9(2)°. These values are similar to those found in the amino(triphenyl)‐phosphonium cation13,14 or the (isopropylamino)(methyl)diphenylphosphonium cation 15. The three P–C bonds are identical within the bounds of experimental error, 1.781–2(3) Å, and similar to those found in the mentioned compounds.…”
