Isonitrile antibiotics, a new class of antibiotics with an isonitrile group. I. Fermentation, isolation and characterization of isonitrile antibiotics.

Abstract: A number of soil isolates belonging to the genus Trichoderma were found to produce isonitrins A, B, C and D and isonitrinic acids E and F, a new class of antibiotics characterized by the presence of isonitrile groups. Taxonomy of the producing organisms, fermentation, isolation and physicochemical and biological properties of isonitrins and isonitrinic acids are reported. Isonitrin A showedthe highest in vitro antimicrobial activities against gram-positive and negative bacteria and fungi. During the course of … Show more

“…Dermadin (105) was also isolated from T. koningii in 1975 (Tamura et al 1975) and its methyl ester derivative (106) obtained from T. hamatum (Brewer et al 1979). All data available for 105 seems to fit with that reported for isonitrinic acid E, which was isolated from T. hamatum in 1982 (Fujiwara et al 1982). In this work isonitrinic acid F (107) was also described.…”

“…X-ray crystallographic analyses were performed by Ollis et al (1980). Isonitrins A (113), B (114), C and D (115) were obtained from T. hamatum in 1982 (Fujiwara et al 1982). Data for isonitrin C appear to be identical to those corresponding to 112.…”

“…The isonitrile trichoviridin (Figs. 3-18) isolated from T. koningii [46][47][48][49] and T. viride showed in vitro antibiotic properties [50]. Several dermadin and trichoviridin analogous have also been isolated.…”
