“…In this study, variable pathogenic factors of isolates were examined and an epidemiological analysis of isolates was performed using drug susceptibility pattern, plasmid profile, random amplified polymorphic DNA-PCR (RAPD-PCR) and PFGE . We examined surface swabs of 298 cattle carcasses to isolate E. coli O157: H7 according to the method of Kanda et al (15) the stx gene was examined by stx PCR. The primers used for amplification of various stx genes were as described previously by Karch and Meyer (16), and by Lin et al (18).…”

“…RAPD-PCR was performed according to the method of Watanabe et al (25). The RAPD patterns of 4 isolates of the Stx-non-producing E. coli 0157:H7 and 2 strains from sporadic cases (No.96-2 and No.96-3) were identical, however, the pattern of No.96-1 from the community outbreak in Gifu City was (15). In 1996, although seven STEC 0157:H7 strains were isolated from 2,534 cattle carcasses in the same way by the Japan Meat Inspection Council (19), the isolation of Stx-non-producing E. colt 0157:H7 was not reported from these investigations.…”
