“…Most lung carcinomas are accompanied by a strong local cellular reaction that correlated in its amount, composition and distribution with the histologic type, grade and stage of the tumor (Ioachim et al, 1976). We have postulated that both tumor antigens and antibodies are present in greater amounts at the site of tumors (Dorsett et al, 1975;Ioachim 1976;Ioachim et al, 1976;Ioachim and Paluch, 1978) and based on this assumption we have successfully isolated tumor-reactive antibodies from eluates of lung carcinomas and from their effusions (Ioachirn et a!., 1976;Ioachim and Paluch, 1978. ) Undcr normal conditions, bronchial secretions contain substantial amounts of immunoglohulins, predominantly IgA, as part of the local immunologic barrier system of the lung (Gotz, 1974;Scrobogna et al, 1976).…”

“…This fluid is similar in composition to serum and is in immediate contact with the tumour. Dorsett et al (1975) show that this fluid contains tumourassociated immunoglobulin. In the present study, IgG was isolated from ascitic fluids in an attempt to detect tumour antigen in the patient's serum.…”

“…Immunoglobulins which were liberated from ascitic ICs by dissociating reagents were shown to react with ovarian cancer tissues by immunohistological staining [9][10][11][12]15]. We also attempted to purify individual constituents from ascitic ICs in a similar way, but found that this approach had several inherent technical limitations for further evaluation, including only partial dissociation with accompanying denaturation and low titers of the resulting heterogeneous antibodies.…”

“…The availability of large amounts of ICs from ascites, compared with those from the patient's serum, has facilitated their characterization [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. Although individual nonantigenic constituents bound within the ascitic ICs have been characterized, the origin and nature of antigenic components remain to be identified, mainly due to technical problems and the lack of suitable probes [16].…”
