Isolation of Erucic acid from the Pseudobulb of Crepidium acuminatum (Jeevak)

Abstract: Isolation and spectroscopic characterization of a long chain 22C fatty acid erucic acid 1 is reportd from the pseudobulb of Crepidium acuminatum (Jeevak). The molecule constitute a long chain hydrocarbon with one carboxyl group attached at one end of the molecule and a double bond at the C13 position. Energy minimized structure revealed that the molecule is 2.42 nm long having a polar ‘COOH’ group attached at the end of lipophilic hydrocarbon chain making it useful as an amphiphile for nanosicne and nanotechno… Show more

“…https://doi.org/10.53023/p.rasayan-20200216 13 Previously we have reported the green synthesis of gold nanoparticles using extracts Jeevak, Kakoli, Mahameda and Vrddhi. 7,8,10,11 Hence it occurred to us the leaf extract of Rddhi may be utilized for the green synthesis of AuNP conjugated with the leaf extract of Rddhi (RLAuNPs). For the green synthesis of gold nanoparticles, a fixed concentration (0.40 mM) of Au(III) was reacted with an increasing concentration of the leaf extract (50 µg/mL to 800 µg/mL).…”

“…5,6 Previous reports from our laboratory have shown that the pseudobulb of Crepidium acuminatum (Jeevak), 7 Rhizome Extract of Roscoea purpurea Sm. (Kakoli), 8 Rhizome Extract of Polygonatum cirrhifolium (Mahameda) 9 and, Tuber Extracts of Habenaria Edgeworthii (Vrddhi) and Habenaria intermedia (Rddhi) 10,11 are rich in antioxidants. Hence, it occurred to us that the leaf extract of Kakoli may also be rich in antioxidants.…”
