Isolation, identification and pathogenic characteristics of tick‐derived parainfluenza virus 5 in northeast China

Abstract: The number of parainfluenza virus 5 (PIV5) infection cases has increased worldwide over the past six decades; however, factors underlying this increase remain unclear. PIV5 has been emerging or re‐emerging in humans and animal species. To date, no information is yet available regarding PIV5 infection in arthropod ticks. Here, we successfully isolated tick‐derived PIV5 from the Ixodes persulcatus species designated as HLJ/Tick/2019 in Heilongjiang, China. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the tick‐derived PIV… Show more

“…PIV5 of the family Paramyxoviridae could cause disease in humans and animals ( Wang et al, 2023 ). The detection of PIV5 in arthropods had not been documented until it was found in ticks from Jilin Province ( Yang et al, 2022 ). LCMV of the family Arenaviridae was a group of rodent-borne viruses that could cause neurological disorders in humans ( Barton et al, 2002 ).…”

“…As no isolate of K. kristinae has been previously reported in marine fish previously, evaluation of whether this new bacterial isolate could cause infection or death of large yellow croakers was undertaken according to the method for animal regressive infection ( Sibinga and Marquis, 2021 ; Yang et al, 2022 ). First, we streaked the reserved bacterial solution onto a BHI agar plate to obtain a single colony for further cultivation in BHI liquid medium at 37°C for 12 h at 180 rpm; then, we performed an extra inoculation from the obtained bacterial solution, which was at the logarithmic growth phase with an OD600.0 value of 1.874, at a ratio of 1:100 to prepare the bacterial culture.…”

“…Particularly, PVs exhibit a wide range of common hosts, suggesting a heightened potential for interspecies transmission. The role of the tick as an intermediate host has been proposed, promoting the transmission of PVs among mammals ( 17 ). Nonetheless, the evolutionary dynamics of PVs during interspecies transmission remain inadequately studied.…”
