This study aimed to determine the effects of graded amounts of biochar supplementation on broiler chick production index, lipid profile, biomarkers of antioxidant status, carcass characteristics, and economic efficiency. A total of 216, seven-day-old, unsexed broiler chicks (Arbor Acres) were divided into six experimental groups (36 chicks each), each with six replicates (6 chicks each). The first group was fed the basal diet and served as control; while the 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th , 5 th , and 6 th groups were fed the basal diet supplemented with 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 % biochar, respectively. According to the data, treatment groups that added biochar levels of 1, 2, 4, and 6 % outperformed the control group in terms of productivity, economic efficiency, and production index. While it was at the same previous levels, total lipids, triglycerides, cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and malondialdehyde (MDA) were lowered. When compared to the control group, there were higher levels of glucose, thyroid hormones (T3-T4), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) (within normal range). In conclusion, it can be concluded that adding biochar to the diet at levels of 1, 2, 4, and 6 % improved the physiological status and growth performance of broilers without having any negative impacts on the blood parameters of broiler chicks.

Glucose is the major source of energy for the human brain which in turn uses ketone bodies as a supplement for energy deficit in glucose cell deficiency conditions. Pregnancy complicated by gestational diabetes is a condition associated with significantly increased risk of ketonemia development. The data available proves a changing influence of ketones on the central nervous system during fetal life and in adults as well. Ketone bodies freely pass through the placenta. They can affect fetal growth and organ damage development, especially the central nervous system. As agreed in the current recommendation of the diabetes associations, it is not obligatory for the attending doctor to conduct a routine inspection of ketone bodies during diabetes treatment in pregnancy. This article is a literature review of ketones' effect on the central nervous system and an attempt to initiate discussion whether we should consider including ketonemia assessment into the standard care package for pregnant women with diabetes and begin some research on the explanation of its influence on fetal development.

The work was aimed at determining the number and morphology of nucleoli in the prophase of the first meiotic division in domestic cattle males. The use of AgNO₃ staining, commonly applied in cytogenetics for the identification of nucleolar organiser regions, made it possible to identify nucleoli in first-order spermatocytes. One nucleolus was identified in each analysed cell. Considerable morphological differentiation of the nucleoli during the prophase of the first meiotic division, particularly in leptotene, unobserved in other farm animal species, was noticed. Dark-hued grain-like structures were found within the disintegrating nucleoli, corresponding approximately or exactly to the number of the nucleolar organiser regions in the domestic cattle karyotype. Dark areas were identified in the selected prometaphase chromosomes. Their number corresponded with the number of active NORs defined in the domestic cattle karyotype.
