Isolation and genome characterization of canine parvovirus type 2c in Brazil

Abstract: This study focused on the isolation and characterization of parvovirus in an infected dog in midwestern Brazil. Non-enveloped icosahedral parvovirus-like particles were isolated in CRFK cells and were allocated to a clade comprised of strains of CPV-2c, based on genome analysis. This is the first isolate of CPV-2c genomically characterized in Brazil.

“…All FPV isolates thus evidenced relatively low viral and HA titers; this may reflect biological adaptation to CRFK cells. EM of 2 FPV isolates revealed a morphology typical of FPV: FPV19D01 and FPV19D02 viral particles were of similar size and shape to parvoviruses isolated from a dog in Brazil [20].…”

“…CPV spreads quickly in dogs by fecal-oral transmission (direct transmission) or oronasal exposure to feces-contaminated fomites. Full-length genomes and deep sequencing have been performed on 40 puppy feces samples to assess the genetic divergence between the CPV-2a and CPV-2c variants and to investigate the incidence of co-infection and recombination events [58] .…”
