Isolation and characterization of the TaSnRK2.10 gene and its association with agronomic traits in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Abstract: Sucrose non-fermenting 1-related protein kinases (SnRKs) comprise a major family of signaling genes in plants and are associated with metabolic regulation, nutrient utilization and stress responses. This gene family has been proposed to be involved in sucrose signaling. In the present study, we cloned three copies of the TaSnRK2.10 gene from bread wheat on chromosomes 4A, 4B and 4D. The coding sequence (CDS) is 1086 bp in length and encodes a protein of 361 amino acids that exhibits functional domains shared w… Show more

“…The TaSnRK2 gene determined sucrose non-fermenting 1-related protein kinase situated at chromosomes 4A and 4B. Its role is important for responding against several environmental conditions and depict significant association with SPS and GPS [ 18 , 59 , 60 ]. Wheat yield related genes, such as TaGW2-A1 at 6A TaTGW6-A1 at 3A, TaCwi at 2A, TaGS5-A1/TaGS-D1 at 4A, TaSus1 at 7A and TaSus2 at 7B reported by wheat scientists [ 40 , 61 , 62 ].…”

“…Therefore, the PM H + -ATPase is a component of the auxin-signaling cascade that may direct pattern formation in embryos. Moreover, several reported genes related to TGW belong to the serine/threonine-protein kinase family, such as TaSnRK2.3 ( Miao et al, 2017 ), TaSnRK2.9 ( Rehman et al, 2019 ), TaSnRK2.10 ( Zhang Z. et al, 2017 ), and Tasg-D1 ( Cheng et al, 2020 ), implying that the serine/threonine-protein kinase proteins play important roles in regulation of wheat grain development. Taken together, TraesCS4B02G376400 and TraesCS4B02G376800 are likely to be candidate genes of Qtgw.ahau-4B.2 .…”

“…6-SFT-A2 is involved in fructan biosynthesis and significantly associated with TGW under rainfed conditions ( Yue et al, 2015 ). TaSnRK2.3 , TaSnRK2.9 , and TaSnRK2.10 , three members of the SnRK2 family, are associated with TGW ( Miao et al, 2017 ; Zhang Z. et al, 2017 ; Rehman et al, 2019 ). More recently, Cheng et al (2020) isolated the Tasg-D1 gene, which encodes serine/threonine protein kinase glycogen synthase kinase 3 (STKc_GSK3), leading to formation of round grains in Indian dwarf wheat ( Triticum sphaerococcum Perc.).…”

“…The TaSnRK2 gene encoded sucrose non-fermenting 1-related protein kinase was detected on chromosome 4A/4B/4D. It plays crucial roles in response to various environment stimuli and shows significant correlation to spike length and thousand kernel weight (Miao et al, 2017 ; Zhang et al, 2017 ). AGO1d gene mutant in a tetraploid durum wheat produced shorter spikes and fewer kernels per spike than wild-type controls (Feng et al, 2017 ).…”
