Isolated zeros in the spectral function as signature of a quantum continuum

Abstract: We study the observable properties of quantum systems which involve a quantum continuum as a subpart. We show in a very general way that in any system, which consists of at least two isolated states coupled to a continuum, the spectral function of one of the states exhibits an isolated zero at the energy of the other state. Several examples of quantum systems exhibiting such isolated zeros are discussed. Although very general, this phenomenon can be particularly useful as an indirect detection tool for the con… Show more

“…Another example demonstrating the relation between odd-ω pairing and MZMs was recently investigated in the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model [228]. The SYK model consists of N interacting MZMs, where the interactions between MZMs are allto-all and completely random [229,230].…”

“…In Ref. [228] a non-interacting single-state QD was considered randomly coupled to the MZMs and solved in the large N limit, for low frequencies. Interestingly, the Green's function in the QD acquires anomalous terms given by f (iω m ) = [λ 2 G γ (iω m )]/[ 2 − iω m [iω m − 2λ 2 G γ (iω m )]], where G γ = −iπ 1/4 sgn(ω m (J|ω m |) −1/2 ), λ characterizes the variance of the couplings between the MZMs in the SYK model and the QD, J describes the variance of the interactions between MZMs, and is the QD energy.…”

“…The density plot shows a cut through the same data asFig.4in the k x , ω plane, at k y = 0.001 √ ρ. Around (k x , ω) ≈ (±0.4, 0.02), the dark lines crossing through the inner Dirac cone arise from the "resonant" type zeroes[30] discussed in Sec. 1.…”
