“…Furthermore, we observed a 33% (2/6) rate of complete long-term response in the melphalan-perfused rats, with no evidence of disease up to 3 months after ILuP. These results are in line with previous studies of melphalan in which ILuP with melphalan was superior to intravenous treatment protocols [2,12]. In conclusion, clinical phase I studies evaluating ILuP for the treatment of lung metastases need to be done.…”

“…Several tumor cell lines implanted in rodents allowed us to conduct efficacy experiments using various chemotherapeutic and biological agents in ILuP models [9][10][11][12][13]. We primarily used a dimethylhydrazine-induced adenocarcinoma cell line for the establishment of pulmonary metastases.…”

“…Therefore, melphalan is also investigated in the setting of ILuP for both carcinoma and sarcoma lung metastases. Nawata et al showed in 1996 that melphalan was effective in eliminating sarcoma lung metastases in a rodent model, but no survival data were published (156). This effect was confirmed by a study from our own institution in a rodent model with metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma.…”
