“…Stem cell transplantation has also been used as intensified postremission therapy in second CR. 15,16 Patients with chromosome abnormalities appeared to have lower CR rates, shorter survival and FFS in our study. Although these differences did not reach statistical significance (Figure 3) -probably because of the small numbers of patients -an abnormal marrow karyotype may indicate a poor prognosis with GS and more intensive therapy may be required for these patients.…”

“…Imrie et al 15 have reported that antileukemic chemotherapy at the time of diagnosis is associated with a significantly lower probability of developing AML and with prolonged survival. Stem cell transplantation has also been used as intensified postremission therapy in second CR.…”

“…The majority of studies have concluded that all patients with GS should receive mastectomy or lumpectomy plus standard systemic chemotherapy (3,4,23,24). Imrie et al (25) reported that the overall survival was longer in chemotherapy-treated patients compared with those who did not receive chemotherapy. The case presented in the current study was treated with lumpectomy and systemic chemotherapy, and no local recurrence was identified in the breast one year later.…”

“…However, primary granulocytic sarcoma respond well to local treatment such as surgery or radiotherapy. Primary granulocytic sarcoma usually progress to AML within a year with a median survival of 22 months [11]. Therefore, systemic chemotherapy against leukemia should be utilized after completion of treatment of local condition.…”
