Abstract: Volatile anesthetics reduce excitatory synaptic transmission by both presynaptic and postsynaptic mechanisms which include inhibition of depolarization-evoked increases in presynaptic Ca2+concentration and blockade of postsynaptic excitatory glutamate receptors.
