Isocyanate‐Derived Polymers

Abstract: Homo‐ and copolymers derived from mono‐ and diisocyanates are treated in this article. Also, addition, condensation, and addition/condensation polymers derived from diisocyanates are included. Of commercial interest are segmented block copolyamide elastomers produced from methylene di‐ p ‐phenylene isocyanate (MDI) and macrodicarboxylic acids and dicarboxylic acids. This reaction polymerization is conducted in a vented extruder or in solution. Also, engineering plastics are obtained fro… Show more

“…2 The reactions between MDI and various species including phosgene and MDA are detailed elsewhere. 2,3 HCl is present during the first separation stages in MDI production and increases corrosion and potentially etching of the stainless steel surface, which can result in greater adhesion of organic species. Because of this, HCl was used in keeping with the aim of replicating initial plant conditions by accelerating fouling on the lab scale.…”
