This study assessed the spatial distribution of population growth of Marinduque, an island province in the heart of the Philippines. Based on the results, population of the province varies across time and space while densely populated areas are concentrated in coastal, flat and relatively flat regions. From 1990-2010, majority of the villages in the province experienced an increase in population. Global Moran's I test on the change in population and population growth rate suggests there is spatial clustering of these two variables among villages. Local Moran's I test validated such results and was able to detect several High-High and Low-High clusters of villages. ª 2015 Institution for Marine and Island Cultures, Mokpo National University. Melalui kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat, kami berupaya melakukan penyuluhan atau sosialisasi terhadap masyarakat nelayan yang berdomisili di pesisir Baranusa tentang manfaat pemberlakuan tradisi budaya Mulung. dampak dari tradisi budaya budaya mulung yang ditinggalkan pendapatan nelayan, mengalami penyusutan oleh sebab kerusakan habitat kawasan perairan sehingga ketersediaan sumberdaya perairan semakin berkurang. metode pelaksanaan kegiatan ini meliputi tiga tahapan antara lain tahapan persiapan adalah melakukan observasi, berkoordinasi dan penyiapan bahan dan alat yang dibutuhkan disaat pelaksanaan kegiatan, tahapan pelaksanaan adalah melakukan kegiatan sosialisasi atau penyuluhan mengenai manfaat tradisi budaya Mulung Penerapan tradisi budaya Mulung dapat memperpendek jarak nelayan ke daerah penagkapan (fishing ground) keadaan ini berdampak penghematan biaya operasional dan juga meminimalisasi kebutuhan waktu maupun tenaga, tahapan evaluasi, mengukur tingkat keberhasilan kegiatan yang dilakukan. In environmental governance for land and sea, the cultural is increasingly imbricated with the natural in the language of ecosystem services and the promise of integrated management. We are witnessing accelerated efforts to bring cultural and natural landscape character assessments into dialogue with other sorts of planning and governance mechanisms for coastal and marine environments. As land, sea, nature and culture are brought into closer correspondence, the coast assumes ever greater significance as a site and object of decision-making in planning and environmental governance. In this paper, I draw on the critical analytical techniques of cultural geography to argue that coasts suffer from definitional ambiguity and conceptual insufficiency, both of which are exemplified by landscape and seascape characterisation, with specific consequences for environmental governance. I argue that we need to (1) both recognise and destabilise the unhelpful dichotomy between land and sea embodied in landscape and seascape character assessments, which have their provenance in landscape architecture; and (2) engage new language and conceptual tools that help us to rethink coasts critically.To this end, later on this paper, I briefly discuss alternative ways of conceptualising the coast, for example as a liminal space.
