Islanding detection technique based on superimposed components of voltage

Abstract: This study presents a new islanding detection technique based on islanding discrimination factor which is derived from the superimposed components of voltages. These voltages are calculated by utilising the acquired voltage signals from the terminal of distributed generators. Various islanding and non-islanding events with varying power mismatches have been simulated on two different widely used networks namely (i) IEEE 34 bus network and (ii) IEC61850-7-420 Micro-Grid model in real time digital simulator (RTD… Show more

“…The realised IDF module converts voltage magnitude to the superimposed components of voltages (ΔV A , ΔV B and ΔV C ) given by (1)-(3). These superimposed components are computed using sliding window techniques, in which data of the current window is updated by the data of the previous window [22]…”

“…The obtained results are summarised in Table 2. Maximum detection time of islanding is ∼14 ms, which is less than the suggested technique (∼22.5 ms) of [17,22]. Similarly, the performance of the proposed IDT has also been tested for critical non-islanding events, i.e.…”
