There was an 11% increase in Qur’an illiteracy from 2015 to 2018 although Indonesia is a Muslim majority country. This fact sparks a question on the Islamic Education Studies (Pendidikan Agama Islam, PAI) implementation as a mandatory curriculum in Indonesia, which is still incapable of solving problems related to Qur’an illiteracy. This research was conducted in collaboration with several parties to designate practical steps aim at improving Al-Qur'an literacy in high school students in Bandung, West Java through an action research design 1,975 students. The research results suggest seven practical steps in solving Qur’an reading skills issues as critical reflections in improving students’ Al-Qur’an reading skills. These steps are abbreviated into LITERAT, which summarizes the syntax in reading the Qur’an. Its implementation is proven to have significantly improved students’ Qur’an reading skills. This research concludes that LITERAT is a relatively effective learning method in improving students’ Qur’an literacy. This finding is believed to contribute to the succession of Qur’an illiteracy eradication in West Java.

Security is an essential social and political institution for International Relations and the cornerstone of International Security Studies. In this sense, the role of religion is increasingly relevant, recognised as a key factor in global politics. With regard to Islam, its examination has been marked by the phenomena of terrorism or other revolutionary political processes and their direct impact on security. However, a careful observation of its fundamental sources uncovers ideas related to security and its connection with administration, military strategies, justice or ethics. This knowledge has been almost neglected by International Security Studies vis-à-vis Islamic Studies. This article researches this unexamined issue from this interdisciplinary perspective, applying a Grounded Theory analysis of Quran and Sunnah. Its main findings show how security and peace are complementary concepts, in addition to the possibility of building an Islamic approach within International Security Studies based on other essential elements in the Islamic tradition.

Disciplinary depictions using the core-periphery distinction are often premised on a 'blurred' and/or monolithic understanding of the core. For instance, the 'core' is often conceptualized broadly to include Western Europe and North America, or narrowly to refer to just the United States. Simultaneously the corresponding disciplinary self-images often refer to the core and the periphery as fixed and homogenous entities, which overlook the often diverse tendencies and hierarchies within the predefined space. This article therefore seeks to highlight the changing geographies of the core/periphery distinction in order to reveal the presence of different cores because there are different core properties. What this means is that the 'core' can appear in surprising spaces and occupy geographies that are normally associated with the periphery. In order to specifically illustrate certain workings and reach of the 'core' within spaces typically conceptualized as 'peripheral' this article will draw on existing data and research. The resultant empirical sketch will show how the 'core' is able to extend its reach and produce further epistemic hierarchies within peripheral spaces. In locating IR's different cores and their hidden geographies this article aims to destabilize the coreperiphery distinction in order to move beyond this disciplinary and disciplining archetype.
