This paper explores the contribution of early social phenomenologists working in the 1920s and 1930s in Germany to charisma theory. Specifically, I focus on the works of Gerda Walther, Herman Schmalenbach and Aron Gurwitsch, whose work is now being re-appreciated in the field of social philosophy. Living in the interbellum German-speaking space, these authors were keenly interested in the issue of charismatic authority and leadership introduced into the social sciences by Max Weber, with whom they engaged in an indirect intellectual dialogue. I argue that their phenomenological background equipped them well to understand the intricacies of the experiential and emotional dimension of charisma, and that their insights remain valid even a century after they have been first published.

“…Neste processo de problematização do uso naturalizado do termo "clássica" e da reificação da "recepção" (como se esta fosse definida por elementos objetivos) (CONNELL, 1997;ALATAS e SINHA 2023), trazer à baila a contribuição das teóricas historicamente localizadas, permite a superação do enredo dogmático, fundado no colonizado discurso de autoridade, alheio ao conhecimento assentado por tal legado e das influências em seu circuito intelectual ou sobre as gerações que se seguiram (GRÜNING e SANTORO, 2021;CARVALHO e KLEIN, 2023). Deste modo, promove o deslocamento do olhar, orientado pela perspectiva histórica acerca da constituição da Sociologia, como ciência e como disciplina, impossibilitando e desmistificando o uso de desclassificações, que infundadamente identificam as mulheres como outsiders na história da Sociologia (ARANGO, 2005) e as marginalizam institucionalmente, assim como desqualificam o próprio debate como "revisionista" (CARVALHO e KLEIN, 2023).…”
