“…However, 2 years ago, seven specimens of L. omanensis were recorded from the Andaman Sea (Gomon & Psomadakis, 2018), the nearest occurring habitat, about 1012 km away from the present finding point of the northernmost Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh. Although the actual cause of its range expansion in the Bay of Bengal is unknown, it could be attributed to recent climate changes and anthropogenic activities (Siddik & Hanif, 2020). Besides, the well‐known habitat of Oman gurnard is the Arabian Sea, where the surface water temperature ranges from 26.4°C to 30.8°C, which is similar to the surface water temperature of the Bay of Bengal (26.5°C to 30°C).…”

“…The Bay of Bengal and the adjacent coastal waters of Bangladesh are rich in diversified fish species and other aquatic organisms (Hanif, 2019; Hanif et al, 2015; Hanif et al, 2021; Nahar et al, 2018; Siddik et al, 2016). With time, many new species are being discovered in this area for increasing fishing efforts but the actual causes for extending their origins are unknown (Hanif et al, 2020; Siddik & Hanif, 2020). This study aims to describe the occurrence of Oman gurnard, Lepidotrigla omanensis , from the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh.…”

“…Species distribution is affected by a simple 'suitability' measure, established by the combination of unimodal responses to environmental variables (Meynard and Quinn, 2007;De-Marco et al 2008). Climate changes are predicted to potentially affect population size, survival and distribution of organisms (Walther et al 2002;Preuss et al 2014;Su et al 2015;Lu et al 2015;Hanif et al 2017;Siddik and Hanif, 2020). The highly discrete geographical distribution of species points towards a strong preference for a particular type of habitat (Hanif et al 2019 (Castellanos-Galindo et al 2018).…”

“…Further, an album of coastal and marine fishes of Bangladesh has been published by Singha et al (2019) from DoF where 232 species of marine fishes were illustrated. Beside these major publications, a number of reports and scientific papers have been published on fish diversity with new distributional records, and also with new species to science from the marine waters of Bangladesh in different years, particularly in the decade 2010 to 2020 (Khan et al 2013, BOBLME 2014, Hossain et al 2015, Roy et al 2015, Baki et al 2017, Shamsunnahar et al 2017, Alam et al 2018, Haque and Hossain 2018, Habib et al 2018a,b, Kabir et al 2018, Saha et al 2018, Habib et al 2019, Hanif 2019, Akash et al 2020, Fuad et al 2020Islam andHabib 2020, Islam et al 2020a,b;Saha et al 2020, Siddik and Hanif 2020, Sarkar et al 2021). Thus, descriptions of various marine fishes of Bangladesh have remained scattered throughout a wide range of scientific publications.…”
