Is the bonding of self-adhesive cement sensitive to root region and curing mode?

Abstract: Objectives To evaluate the influence of two curing techniques on the degree of conversion (DC) of resin cements and on bond strength (BS) of fiber posts in different regions of root dentin.Material and Methods Twenty single-rooted premolars were endodontically treated, and the post spaces were prepared. The roots were randomly divided into two groups (n=10), according to the activation mode of the resin cement RelyX™ U200 (3M ESPE Saint Paul, MN, USA): conventional (continuous activation mode) and soft-start a… Show more

“…Regarding failure modes, in RXU group, mixed failure was predominant regardless of P&B NT pretreatment, which agreed with the results of those who used self‐adhesive resin cements (Boing, Gomes, Gomes, Reis, & Gomes, ; Kim, Cho, Roh, & Shin, ). Pilo et al () have reported predominant failure mode for RelyX U200 was adhesive cement‐crown and the classification was not identical with this study.…”

“…Fiber posts are generally indicated to restore teeth with excessive loss of dental structure and appropriate endodontic treatment . The choice of this material is based on esthetic characteristics and increased retention for the final restoration; this is applicable when the remaining tooth structure can no longer provide adequate support for a restoration .…”

“…Because self-adhesive resin cements show an affinity for the composition of composite resins, in addition to containing an unfavorable factor (e.g., C-factor). 27 The cervical dentinal tubules are larger than in the middle and apical portions, and root canal diameter is larger as well. 28 This may possibly explain the conflicting results with the literature.…”
