“…25 For instance, in five different clinical settings, the sensitivity of the ADAM in detecting low T was good (81%-97%), but the specificity was poor (19.7%-32%). [26][27][28][29][30] Similar figures were reported for the AMS and MMAS. 27 Moreover, 6 months of oral T supplementation had no significant effect on scores of the ADAM and AMS questionnaires in a group of elderly men with low-normal T levels.…”

“…However, in our study, no significant association between total AMS scores and testosterone or SHBG levels were observed. Our results together with previous findings [13,14] suggest that the AMS scale may have a high degree of sensitivity to detect the presence of symptoms/signs of LOH but may be relatively poor in regard to specificity. This is because the detected symptoms/signs can be caused by factors other than testosterone deficiency.…”

“…The AMS questionnaire assists in both the diagnosis of testosterone deficiency and monitoring of patients using testosterone replacement therapy. However, numerous reports have determined that AMS values are not specific to the detection of testosterone deficiency [12][13][14][15][16]. Thus, it is unclear what conditions are reflected by AMS values.…”

“…In a study by Araujo et al 4.2% of men younger than 50 YY were diagnosed with symptomatic androgen deficiency and 8.4% of men 50+ YY [26]. Men were considered symptomatic if they had one of the specific sexual symptoms (low libido, erectile dysfunction, or osteoporosis) or two or more of the nonspecific symptoms (sleep disturbance, depressed mood, lethargy, or low physical performance), in line with guidelines that are proposed by The Endocrine Society [27]. In our questionnaire, only one of these three symptoms was asked for; erectile dysfunction; however in a milder form expressed by the phrase "less strong erections" as used in the ADAMquestionnaire.…”
