Promoting environmental innovation through environmental regulation is a key measure for cities to reduce environmental pressure; however, the role of environmental regulation in environmental innovation is controversial. This study used the number of environmental patent applications to measure urban environmental innovation and analyzed the role of urban environmental regulation on urban environmental innovation with the help of the spatial Durbin model (SDM). The results showed that: (1) From 2007 to 2017, the number of environmental patent applications in China has grown rapidly, and technologies related to buildings dominated the development of China’s environmental innovation. (2) Although the number of cities participating in environmental innovation was increasing, China’s environmental innovation activities were highly concentrated in a few cities (Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai), showing significant spatial correlation and spatial agglomeration characteristics. (3) Urban environmental regulation had a positive U-shaped relationship with urban environmental innovation capability, which was consistent with what the Porter hypothesis advocates.

The world is facing the problem of resource scarcity and environmental degradation. Improving energy efficiency is an effective way to reduce energy consumption and reduce pollutant emissions. Based on relevant data from 30 Chinese provinces from 2011 to 2019, this paper constructs energy efficiency indicators by establishing a super-efficient three-stage SBM-DEA model. It explores the impact of digital finance on energy efficiency using a systematic generalized moment estimation method and constructs an analytical framework for the impact of digital inclusive finance on energy efficiency from the breadth of coverage, depth of use, and degree of digitization of digital inclusive finance. In addition, this paper examines the differences in the impact of digital inclusive finance on energy efficiency from a sub-regional perspective. Research indicates the following: (1) At the national level, the relationship between digital inclusive finance development and energy efficiency in China shows an inverted “U”-shape; the breadth of digital financial coverage, the use of digital insurance services and digital credit services, and the degree of digitalization of digital finance all have significant effects on energy efficiency. (2) From a regional perspective, the impact of digital inclusive finance on energy efficiency has regional heterogeneity. Based on this finding, first, the government should speed up the construction of digital financial infrastructure to promote the further development of digital finance. Second, the government should take appropriate measures to regulate industry giants. Third, the government should adjust measures to local conditions when formulating policies. The above research has certain implications for improving the targeting of digital finance–related policies and promoting the high-quality development of China’s economy.

As the main strategy for the coordinated development of China’s ecological economy in the future, the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality strategy is an important response strategy to solve the two major problems of China’s urbanization process: the industrial structure is biased toward tradition and the economic development is biased toward high carbon. Under this development prospect, how to coordinate ecological development and economic development through the transformation of the industrial structure and form a unified development situation is an important issue for the development of the ecological economy. To solve this problem, the research starts with the theory of industrial structure change and ecological efficiency, puts forward two kinds of ecological efficiency assumptions, and establishes a mathematical model based on the C-D production function and cost function for the impact of industrial structure change on ecological efficiency. On this basis, a spatial model is formed, and empirical analysis is carried out for the important domestic ecological economic zone - the Yangtze River Economic Belt. The research results show that the industrial structure of the eco-economic zone will have a significant positive impact on ecological efficiency. At the same time, under the effect of inter-city cooperation, ecological efficiency has a significant spatial spillover effect. At the same time, the spatial lag factor and spatial error factor of urban agglomeration in the Yangtze River Delta are significant at the 10% and 5% levels, and the spatial lag factor and spatial error factor of urban agglomeration in the middle and long reaches are significant at the 5% level. It can be seen that the spatial dependence and linkage of ecological effects are strong, and there is a relatively significant interaction.
