Is TAM for wireless mobile data services applicable in China? A survey report from Zhejiang, China

Abstract: This paper summarises the development of the Wireless Mobile Data Services (WMDS) in Zhejiang, a province typical of more economically developed southeast region of China. We surveyed 599 university students and business executives in Zhejiang in the fall of 2004 to examine whether Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) for WMDS are applicable in China, particularly in Zhejiang. The data were analysed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). This study revealed some interesting findings on adoption intention, per… Show more

“…However, literature also demonstrates the differences within the Chinese context. For example, a study by Lu et al (2007) was conducted in one eastern province of China, in which the variables of social pressure and perceived control over technology did not significantly affect technological adoption. However, the two factors were supported as adoption determinants in studies conducted in other parts of China (e.g.…”

“…The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was proposed by Davis (1989) specifically to explain and predict consumer acceptance of an information systems and technologies. Especially, it has been frequently used to provide the theoretical foundation for research into mobile commerce (m-commerce) issues (Choi et al, 2008;Lu, Wang and Yu, 2007). A theoretical TAM model assumes that the decision to adopt a particular technology is determined by two key factors: PU and PEOU (see Figure 1).…”
