“…In opposition contrast to previous results in schizophrenia, the individuals affected by 22qDS in this sample do not show a low ABRC compared to controls [Turek, 1990;Fañanás et al, 1996a;Fearon et al, 2001]. We also did not observe in our 22qDS patient sample the higher frequency of ridge dissociations reported in schizophrenia.…”

“…The higher values of ABRC in 22qDS subjects with schizophrenia could also be caused this way. Previous results suggesting low ABRC to be associated with schizophrenia [Fañanás et al, 1990[Fañanás et al, , 1996aTurek, 1990;Fearon et al, 2001] have been interpreted to be due to intrauterine environmental noise provoking a lower development of the embryonic pads of some patients. In other chromosomal abnormality syndromes, ABRC does not show a consistent pattern, being increased in Turner syndrome [Dallapiccola et al, 1972], not differing in Down syndrome [Holt, 1968b], or appearing decreased in 18q-syndrome [Schaumann and Alter, 1976].…”

“…Dermatoglyphic traits are formed under genetic control early in development but may be affected by the environmental factors (such as : viral infection, radiation, alcohol and drug abuse) during the first trimester of pregnancy (Chintaman et al, 2007;Bramon et al, 2005). Epidermal ridges may form in some abnormal patterns, thus the ridge patterns can be used in etiology during the crucial period of diseases (Fearon et al, 2001). Dermatoglyphics serves as a window of congenital abnormalities and is a sensitive indicator of intrauterine anomalies (Matsuyama et al, 2006).…”

“…Fearon et al 10 reported more than 70 such studies up to 2001. These studies are valuable since they considered schizophrenia from a preventive perspective reflecting an important recent trend in neurosciences.…”
