Is it Possible to Remove the Discolorations of Prefabricated and Direct Resin Composites by Tooth Brushing?

Can we restore the colour of long‐term discoloured resin composites by noninvasive methods?

“…In our study, to avoid the excessive initial water/beverage sorption that may occur and affect discolouration independent of the colouring agent, the prepared resin composite samples were stored in distilled water for 1 week. This is the reason why, even after a very long exposure period to a coffee solution, our colour change values (Δ E ) were found to be lower than previously performed studies where the samples were placed in discolouration solutions immediately after 24 hours 31‐35 . The discolourations occurred on the resin composites tested could be removed by toothbrushing, but there were differences in the results obtained regarding the kinds of toothpaste used.…”

“…The application of overpressure increases the risk of fraying of the toothbrush's bristles and causes some damage. In a recent study, the application of White Ruscello with a conventional toothbrush under a force of 200 g gave rise to lower colour restitution after coffee immersion of 1 week compared to Pro‐Expert Professional Protection and 3D White Luxe Perfection 35 . This study showed clearly the critical importance of choosing the proper toothbrush and application pressure in order to activate the ingredients of the toothpaste and yield the best stain removal performance.…”

Beyazlatıcı Etkili Diş Macunlarının Renklendirilmiş Kompozit Materyalindeki Renk Değişimine Etkisi

“…15 Kahve ile renklendirilmiş olan kompozit rezinlerin fırçalama sonrası renk değişimlerinin incelendiği çalışmada renklenmelerin fırçalama işleminden sonra büyük oranda eski rengine döndüğü, ayrıca cilalanabilirlik özelliği daha yüksek olan kompozit rezinlerin daha az renk değişimi gösterdiği ve kullanılan diş macunun içeriğine göre beyazlatıcı etkisinin değişebileceği ortaya çıkmıştır. 16 Beyazlatma ajanları, kompozit rezinlerdeki dış lekelenmeleri başarılı bir şekilde giderebilir ve dişleri etkili bir şekilde beyazlatabilirken kompozitleri beyazlatmazlar. 17,18 Bu nedenle beyazlatmadan sonra kompozit rezin, restorasyonu çevreleyen beyazlatılmış diş yapısına uymayabilir.…”

“…23 Kahve ile renklendirilen prefabrik ve direkt kompozit rezinlerin fırçalama sonrası renk değişimlerinin incelendiği bir çalışmada renklenmelerin macunla fırçalama işlemi ile büyük oranda ortadan kalkabildiği, cilalanabilirlik özelliği daha iyi olan kompozitlerin daha az renk değişimi gösterdiği ve kullanılan diş macunun içeriğine göre beyazlatıcı etkisinin değiştiği belirtilmiştir. 24 Çalışmamızdaki kompozit rezinler doldurucu içeriklerine göre değerlendirildiğinde, nano dolduruculu kompozit rezinlerin mikrohibrit dolduruculu olan Gradia Direct'e göre cilalanabilirlik özellikleri daha iyi olmasına rağmen diş macun alt grubundaki nano kompozit örneklerdeki renk değişim değerleri mikrohibrit kompozit örneklere göre istatistiksel olarak daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Bu durum çalışmamızda kullanılan kompozitlerdeki monomer içeriğinin renk stabilitesini diğer faktörlerden daha çok etkilediğini göstermektedir.…”
