“…First, potential scenarios for co-occurrence may involve a third unaccounted variable that causes them both. Although the study attempted to limit this by controlling relevant personality traits such as neuroticism, another key correlate of CIU which was not included here is rash impulsivity (Meerkerk et al, 2010;Mottram & Fleming, 2009). …”

“…In this sense, problems controlling the engagement in one behaviour, may be related to problems in the other. Both workaholism and CIU have been extensively studied separately (e.g., Griffiths, 2010;Meerkerk et al, 2010;Ng et al, 2007), however, studies examining co-occurrence are scarce. An exception to this are the studies conducted by Porter andKakabadse (2003, 2006).…”

Similarly, Meerkerk et al (2010) develop their diagnosis tool based on pathological gambling, a specific impulse control disorder. On the other hand, Griffiths (2000) built on previous work on a range of behavioral addictions and conceptualizes compulsive Internet use as a subcategory within this group.…”
