Iron(III) Spin Crossover Compounds

Abstract: In this chapter, selected results obtained so far on Fe(III) spin crossover compounds are summarized and discussed. Fe(III) spin transition materials of ligands containing chalcogen donor atoms are considered with emphasis on those of N,N-disubstituted-dithiocarbamates, N,N-disubstituted-XY-carbamates (XY=SO, SSe, SeSe), X-xanthates (X=O, S), monothio-b-diketonates and X-semicarbazones (X=S, Se). In addition, attention is directed to Fe(III) spin crossover systems of multidentate Schiff base-type ligands. Exam… Show more

“…However, our density functional (DFT) calculations of Fe-S vibrations in FeDETEC (not shown) indicate that this absorption band appears to be active in the IR region between 350-240 cm -1 . These calculated results are found to be in excellent agreement with the Fe(III) spin crossover behavior studied by infrared spectroscopy and might be assigned with ν (Fe-S) vibrations 32 .…”

“…These structural features are similar to those already reported for different salts and solvates of the same cationic complex. 8 In the LS state the coordination octahedron is much more regular ( The sal 2 -trien ligand wraps the Fe(III) ion in such a way that the two aromatic rings lie approximately in orthogonal planes. Each aromatic ring interacts with an adjacent [Fe(sal 2 -trien)] + cation via p-p stacking defining infinite chains running parallel to the a-axis.…”
