RESUMOA Área Arqueológica de Serra Negra está localizada na face leste da Serra do Espinhaço Meridional, Minas Gerais. Está constituída por 56 sítios, sendo todos abrigos sob rocha, a maioria com presença de painéis rupestres. Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar as principais características da área, discutindo questões referentes à implantação dos sítios na paisagem, características geoambientais e repertório cultural. Como norte teórico optou-se em discutir acerca do conceito de paisagem, baseado, principalmente, no de lugares persistentes. Para tanto, foi necessário adotar a multidisciplinaridade como base de pesquisa, utilizando métodos e técnicas de várias Ciências. Como resultado espera-se uma compreensão mais assertiva acerca do sistema regional de assentamento, bem como evidenciar as principais características do repertório cultural. Palavras-chave: Arqueologia da Paisagem, Serra do Espinhaço, Arte rupestre. ABSTRACTThe Serra Negra Archaeological Area is located on the east side of the Espinhaço Ridge, Minas Gerais state. It is consisted of 56 archaeological sites. All are rock shelters, mostly with the presence of rock art, deployed in different biomes that constitute the area. This article aims to present the main features of the archaeological area and to discuss about issues related with the implantation of the archaeological sites in the landscape, geoenvironmental features, and cultural repertoire. As theoretical referential, it was discussed about the landscape archeology, mainly based on persistent places concept. Therefore, it was necessary to adopt a multidisciplinary approach based on research, using various methods and techniques by different Sciences applied to Archaeology. As a result it is expected a more assertive responses about the regional settlement system as well as highlight the main features of the cultural repertoire.

Many works of art are complex systems consisting of a core completed by the overlapping of several painted layers. In this work, we apply an innovative method based on grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD) with synchrotron radiation (SR) to investigate polychrome stratigraphies with a completely non-destructive approach. The SR-GIXRD measurements provided direct and unambiguous compositional and stratigraphic information of the crystalline species lying in different layers. The investigations performed on a small fragment sampled from a painted terracotta statue allowed the identification of pigments, fillers, aggregates of the matrix and newly formed decay salts in micrometric-thin paint layers. Furthermore, the great potentiality of this study is the feasibility of depth profile investigations on multi-layered painted samples from cultural heritage objects without resorting to cross sectional analyses. Currently, the method is non-destructive but it can be potentially non-invasive in situations where small moveable artworks can be placed into the measurement chamber of the SR-XRD beamlines. The overall study paves the way to a new scenario of artwork investigations, shedding light on new unexplored approaches for non-destructive studies of cultural heritage objects, their conservation history and their interaction with the environment.

Lubricating oil is used to reduce wear and friction of moving engine parts, thus essential for the performance and lifetime of the equipment increases. In automotive lubricants, there is often the presence of some ions of metallic elements and their occurrence in oil comes from two main sources of added additive or wear of engine parts. Increased amounts of some elements in the lubricating oil may indicate the extent of wear of engine components. Therefore, an elemental analysis of used lubricating oils may indicate the need for preventive maintenance of motors before irreversible damage occurs. The X-ray fluorescence technique dispersive energy (EDXRF) has the disadvantage of not having sufficient sensitivity for the determination of trace amounts of elements.To overcome this problem a pre-sample concentration step is necessary prior to analysis by EDXRF. Thus, this paper describes a method of pre-concentration for Ca, Cr, V, Fe, Ni and Zn in lubricating oil using the ring oven technique, and quantification of EDXRF. With the automation of ring oven technique it was possible to prepare rings using 250 µL of sample (2% w/w lubricating oil in toluene), 50 µL of toluene, and 500 µL carrier solution (30% v/v acetic acid in ethanol) added to the silica plate heated to 90 °C, with fixed volumes of 36 µL aliquots to the sample and 44 µL into toluene and the solution drag, with 30 seconds intervals. Recoveries for Cr, V and Fe are in the range of 92-118%, and the measured values of Ca and Zn to the SRM 1848 were 109% and 117%, respectively. The results of the determination to Ca and Zn in four new lube oil samples proved to be consistent with the values obtained by the reference method, mineralization / ICP OES. The pre-concentration procedure required only ten minutes while the ring formed measures required in total twenty-seven minutes. Furthermore, preconcentration of the ring oven system method presented repeatability and stability of rings for lubricating oil samples.
