Iraqi gasoline performance at low engine speeds

Abstract: Four grades of gasoline fuel – obtained from Iraqi oil refineries – are used in this research to investigate their performance in spark-ignition (SI) engines. These grades are RON 77, RON 82, RON 87, and RON 93. We used a four-stroke, four-cylinder SI engine laboratory rig to conduct the experiments and calculate the engine performance for each gasoline grade. We compared the experimental results with the predicted numerical simulations carried out using a well-known commercial software called Lotus Engine Sim… Show more

“…Late IVO and IVC timing increase the BSFC because of the insufficient induction and ineffective suction due to the piston motion from BDC to TDC. Early EVC increases fuel consumption because it causes high residual gas mass fraction and high thermal efficiency [29]. The improvement in BSFC, as shown in case 1, is attributed to the smaller overlap time of the valves.…”

“…At higher engine speeds, by delaying the intake valve's closing, the volumetric efficiency increased even though the piston moves upwards. This finding is attributed to the continuous cylinder charging with high flow momentum of the fuel mixture [29]. At low engine speeds, the volumetric efficiency is penalised because of the LIVC.…”

“…The dispersion of fish scales in the treated epoxy was seen by a light microscope (MEIJI TECHNO CO. Ltd -Japan) [26,27]. It was studied using a field emission scanning electron microscope (Inspect-S50, FEI CO. Ltd) [28][29][30][31]. Tensile performance of composites was performed on a universal testing machine (Beijing United test Co. Ltd) [32][33][34] with a speed of 2 mm/min, according to (ASTM D-638).…”

“…When electromagnetic waves land on the front face of the material, some of the force (PI) (PR) is reflected, while some of the force (PI) (PR) as energy is absorbed and dissipated, and the remaining force (PT) is transferred via the material of shielding. This means that the total attenuation is a result of a combination of three separate processes, namely, multiple internal interactions (SEM), absorption (SEA), and reversion (SER) [11,[14][15][16][17].…”
