The occurrence of disasters has the potential to impede the progress of sustainable urban development. For instance, it has the potential to result in significant human casualties and substantial economic repercussions. Sustainable cities, as outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12, prioritize the objective of disaster risk reduction. According to the Gesi Smarter 2030, the Internet of Things (IoT) assumes a pivotal role in the context of smart cities, particularly in domains including smart grids, smart waste management, and smart transportation. IoT has emerged as a crucial facilitator for the management of disasters, contributing to the development of cities that are both resilient and sustainable. This systematic literature analysis seeks to demonstrate the sensors utilized in IoT for the purpose of urban catastrophe management. The review encompasses both the pre-disaster and post-disaster stages, drawing from a total of 72 articles. During each stage, we presented the characteristics of sensors employed in IoT. Additionally, we engaged in a discourse regarding the various communication technologies and protocols that can be utilized for the purpose of transmitting the data obtained from sensors. Furthermore, we have demonstrated the methodology for analyzing and implementing the data within the application layer of IoT. In conclusion, this study addresses the existing research deficiencies within the literature and presents potential avenues for future exploration in the realm of IoT-enabled urban catastrophe management, drawing upon the findings of the evaluated publications.

Over the past 10 years, urban floods have increased in frequency because of extreme rainfall events and urbanization development. To reduce the losses caused by floods, various urban flood models have been developed to realize urban flood early warning. Using CiteSpace software’s co-citation analysis, this paper reviews the characteristics of different types of urban flood models and summarizes state-of-the-art technologies for flood model development. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology provides an innovative approach to the construction of data-driven models; nevertheless, developing an AI model coupled with flooding processes represents a worthwhile challenge. Big data (such as remote sensing, crowdsourcing geographic, and Internet of Things data), as well as spatial data management and analysis methods, provide critical data and data processing support for model construction, evaluation, and application. The further development of these models and technologies is expected to improve the accuracy and efficiency of urban flood simulations and provide support for the construction of a multi-scale distributed smart flood simulation system.

The internet of things (IoT) is rapidly expanding and improving operations in a wide range of real-world applications, from consumer IoT and enterprise IoT to manufacturing and industrial IoT (IIoT). Consumer markets, wearable devices, healthcare, smart buildings, agriculture, and smart cities are just a few examples. This paper discusses the current state of the IoT ecosystem, its primary applications and benefits, important architectural stages, some of the problems and challenges it faces, and its future. This paper explains how an appropriate IoT architecture that saves data, analyzes it, and recommends corrective action improves the process's ground reality. The IoT system architecture is divided into three layers: device, gateway, and platform. This then cascades into the four stages of the IoT architectural layout: sensors and actuators; gateways and data acquisition systems; edge IT data processing; and datacenter and cloud, which use high-end apps to collect data, evaluate it, process it, and provide remedial solutions. This elegant combination provides excellent value in automatic action. In the future, IoT will continue to serve as the foundation for many technologies. Machine learning will become more popular in the coming years as IoT networks take center stage in a variety of industries.
