IoT-Based Horticulture Monitoring System

Abstract: With climate change and global warming in mind, vertical farms, hydroponics and urban greenhouses can now be found in many cities worldwide as we transform the ways we produce food. Additionally, recent implications of the COVID-19 pandemic prove that as a society we can harness the benefit of remote monitoring and automation for controlled-environment agriculture and horticulture. The subject matter of this paper is implementation of a solarpowered, Internet of Things (IoT) based Real-time Autonomous Horticult… Show more

“…For a number of years, the Communication Technology Research Centre have been experimenting with sensors measuring physical data from motion to temperature, pressure and other factors of the physical environment [2,3]. On the other hand, in a previous project, dedicated to real-time security analytics, the Cyber Security Research Centre implemented a full pipeline for data management of real-time security data along its entire lifecycle from generation to elicitation, aggregation, transportation, ingestion and analysis [4].…”

“…With the onset of the third decade of the 21st Century, indoor vertical farming systems are well-accepted in many countries and researchers are paying attention to apply artificial intelligence, ICT information and communication technology, internet of things and full automation, to introduce phenomics-based techniques to have a high throughput screening for special plant traits and product quality, and to develop robotics for the commercial production of horticultural products in CEH systems [55,319,331,336,[354][355][356][357].…”
