In order to solve the problems of high labor cost, long detection period, and low degree of information in current water environment monitoring, this paper proposes a lake water environment monitoring system based on LoRa and Internet of Things technology. The system realizes remote collection, data storage, dynamic monitoring, and pollution alarm for the distributed deployment of multisensor node information (water temperature, pH, turbidity, conductivity, and other water quality parameters). Moreover, the system uses STM32L151C8T6 microprocessor and multiple types of water quality sensors to collect water quality parameters in real time, and the data is packaged and sent to the LoRa gateway remotely by LoRa technology. Then, the gateway completes the bridging of LoRa link to IP link and forwards the water quality information to the Alibaba Cloud server. Finally, end users can realize the water quality control of monitored water area by monitoring management platform. The experimental results show that the system has a good performance in terms of real-time data acquisition accuracy, data transmission reliability, and pollution alarm success rate. The average relative errors of water temperature, pH, turbidity, and conductivity are 0.31%, 0.28%, 3.96%, and 0.71%, respectively. In addition, the signal reception strength of the system within 2 km is better than -81 dBm, and the average packet loss rate is only 94%. In short, the system’s high accuracy, high reliability, and long distance characteristics meet the needs of large area water quality monitoring.

The importance of image security in the field of medical imaging is challenging. Several research works have been conducted to secure medical healthcare images. Encryption, not risking loss of data, is the right solution for image confidentiality. Due to data size limitations, redundancy, and capacity, traditional encryption techniques cannot be applied directly to e-health data, especially when patient data are transferred over the open channels. Therefore, patients may lose the privacy of data contents since images are different from the text because of their two particular factors of loss of data and confidentiality.Researchers have identified such security threats and have proposed several image encryption techniques to mitigate the security problem. However, the study has found that the existing proposed techniques still face application-specific several security problems. Therefore, this paper presents an efficient, lightweight encryption algorithm to develop a secure image encryption technique for the healthcare industry. The proposed lightweight encryption technique employs two permutation techniques to secure medical images. The proposed technique is analyzed, evaluated, and then compared to conventionally encrypted ones in security and execution time. Numerous test images have been used to determine the performance of the proposed algorithm. Several experiments show that the proposed algorithm for image cryptosystems provides better efficiency than conventional techniques.INDEX TERMS Internet of Medical Things, medical image encryption, lightweight encryption.

Large-scale deployments of the Internet of Things (IoT) are adopted for performance improvement and cost reduction in several application domains. The four main IoT application domains covered throughout this article are smart cities, smart transportation, smart healthcare, and smart manufacturing. To increase IoT applicability, data generated by the IoT devices need to be time-stamped and spatially contextualized. LPWANs have become an attractive solution for outdoor localization and received significant attention from the research community due to low-power, low-cost, and long-range communication. In addition, its signals can be used for communication and localization simultaneously. There are different proposed localization methods to obtain the IoT relative location. Each category of these proposed methods has pros and cons that make them useful for specific IoT systems. Nevertheless, there are some limitations in proposed localization methods that need to be eliminated to meet the IoT ecosystem needs completely. This has motivated this work and provided the following contributions: (1) definition of the main requirements and limitations of outdoor localization techniques for the IoT ecosystem, (2) description of the most relevant GNSS-free outdoor localization methods with a focus on LPWAN technologies, (3) survey the most relevant methods used within the IoT ecosystem for improving GNSS-free localization accuracy, and (4) discussion covering the open challenges and future directions within the field. Some of the important open issues that have different requirements in different IoT systems include energy consumption, security and privacy, accuracy, and scalability. This paper provides an overview of research works that have been published between 2018 to July 2021 and made available through the Google Scholar database.
