“…This result is consistent with those of other studies (O'Kelly and Spiers, 1992;Nagaraja, 1995;Sauer et al, 1998;García-González, 2008b). When methane production is inhibited, a decrease in both acetate and butyrate and a concomitant increase in propionate production are expected (Van Nevel and Demeyer, 1992).…”

“…MO also favours propionate producing bacteria (Jalc et al, 1992;Newbold et al, 1993), which results in an increase in propionate production. Many studies including both in vitro and in vivo trials (O'Kelly and Spiers, 1992;Nagaraja, 1995;Sauer et al, 1998;García-González, 2008a,b) suggested that addition of MO reduced methane production, decreased acetate content and the acetate:propionate ratio, increased propionate content, and inhibited protozoa proliferation. Our results are in concordance with those of previous studies.…”

“…Antimicrobial feed additives can stabilize ruminal fermentation by promoting changes in microbial populations and their activity in the rumen, reducing the incidence of metabolic disorders, and improving rate and efficiency of growth (Nagaraja, 1995). The isolated utilization of ionophore, like monensin or salinomycin, or non-ionophore antibiotics, such as virginiamycin, as growth promoter feed additives has been thoroughly investigated.…”

“…Koksidiyoz etmenleri ince barsağın emilim yüzeyine zarar vererek canlı ağırlık artışı ve yemden yararlanmayı olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir. Bu nedenle, özellikle buzağılarda koksidiyozis hastalığını önlemek amacıyla iyonoforlar yemlere katılmakta, böylece performans iyileşmektedir (Nagaraja, 1995).…”
