Ionic Liquids with Fluorine‐Containing Cations

Abstract: Interest in ionic liquids with fluorine-containing cations has grown markedly in recent years. The syntheses, characterization and properties of quaternary fluoroalkyl-substituted ammonium, imidazolium, triazolium, pyridinium, pyrazinium, pyridazinium, pyrimidinium, piperazinium, pyrrolidinium, oxazolidinium, and morpholinium salts have been studied in detail. By modifying the anion or the fluorine-containing substituent on the cation, a wide range of properties of fluorine-containing ionic liquids can be tune… Show more

“…In another study was observed that the presence of fluorine in the structure of the IL (as cation or anion) provokes an increment of density. [71] Other halogens (e.g. iodine and bromide) increases significantly the density values [72] The presence of pentafluorosulfane (-SF 5 ) in the cation structure will lead to an increase of density and a reduced melting point.…”

“…Ionic liquids (ILs) with fluorine-containing cations [12,13] are known to facilitate the emulsification of fluoroalkanes when added to conventional ILs [14]. Solubilities of fluorinated gases in ILs with non-fluorous cations were also determined [15].…”
