Ionic Liquids based on Different Chain Fatty Acids as Green Corrosion Inhibitors for C-steel in Produced Oilfield Water

Abstract: The work presents the investigation of fatty acids based ionic liquid as green corrosion inhibitors for C-steel in produced oilfield water. Different-chain length fatty acids C6, C12 and C18-1 are mixed with di-ethanol amine (DEA) to synthesize some ionic liquids and evaluated the corrosion rates on C-steel surface using weight loss method and potential time measurements. The prepared ionic solutions were shown to be effective in reducing the corrosion rates as sustainable corrosion inhibitors. The polar unit … Show more

“…As mentioned in Table 7 IL-3MPyBr has a larger dipole moment value (17.1497 Debye) than IL–IL-1MPipBr, IL-1MPyrBr, IL-2MPyBr and IL-4MPyBr which recorded values as 17.1383, 15.9486, 15.8485 and 14.6848 Debye in order. Showing that the IL-3MPyBr's capacity to adhere to the surface of carbon steel and enhance inhibition is stronger 37 , 53 . Furthermore, the selection of inhibitory molecules to protect carbon steel's surface from corrosive environments is influenced by the molecular surface of the material 46 .…”

“…The viscosity reduction of the blank test result was 28.5%. The effect of adding the ionic liquid to reduce the viscosity of heavy crude oil in catalytic aquathermolysis is interesting because an ionic liquid is environmentally friendly and has low vapor pressure [ 29 , 50 , 51 , 52 , 53 ]. Viscosity reduction values according to a series of experiments with different conditions are reported in Table S1 .…”

“…Recently, ionic liquids (ILs) and their applications have attracted great attention due to their advantages of having thermal stability, low vapor pressure, and green characteristics [ 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 ]. The catalytic aquathermolysis of heavy crude oil is one of the most popular catalytic applications and was studied by different researchers [ 8 , 12 , 27 , 32 , 33 , 34 , 35 ].…”
