Ionic Liquid-Based Ultrasonic-Assisted Extraction to Analyze Seven Compounds in Psoralea Fructus Coupled with HPLC

Abstract: Psoralea Fructus is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and the content of psoralen, isopsoralen, neobavaisoflavone, bavachin, psoralidin, isobavachalcone, and bavachinin A is the main quality control index of Psoralea Fructus because of its clinical effects. Thus, a fast and environmentally-benign extraction method of seven compounds in Psoralea Fructus is necessary. In this work, an ionic liquid-based ultrasonic-assisted method (ILUAE) for the extraction of seven compounds from Psoralea Fructu… Show more

“…Psoralea corylifolia has traditionally been used in India, China and Southeastern Asian countries for the treatment of several diseases such as nephritis, asthma, cough, osteoporosis, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases [118,119]. Psoralea corylifolia contains, other than neobavaisoflavone, several active compounds including psoralen, isopsoralen, psoralidin, isobavachalcone, bavachin and bakuchiol [220]. Moreover, Psoralea corylifolia seeds have been reported to possess a high activity against the SARS-CoV papain-like protease (PLpro) which is the main enzyme involved in SARS virus replication [221].…”

“…A strong mechanical effect (such as shear) was produced by ultrasound, causing Therefore, [HMIM] Br/methanol was selected as the best extraction solvent. After consulting relevant literature, Shi [37] selected [HMIM]PF6/70% EtOH to extract the compounds from Psoralea Fructus, because of the highest extraction efficiency. Tan [38] used MILs[C 4 mim]FeCl 3 Br along methanol for extracting paclitaxel from Taxus species.…”

“…If the solid-liquid ratio is too large and the solvent is too much, the solvent will be wasted, and the cost will be increased. Many studies have considered the factor of solid-liquid ratio [37,43]. In Figure 8, when the solid-liquid ratio was 1:20 g/mL, the extraction yield of the target compounds reached the maximum.…”

“…ILs have some unique physical and chemical properties, such as low melting point, strong dissolving ability, good stability, negligible vapor pressure, wide electrochemical window, etc. Therefore, ILs are widely used in the fields of catalysis , organic synthesis , electrochemistry , and analytical chemistry . In recent years, ILs have attracted increasing attention in the field of chromatographic analysis, and their applications include GC stationary phases , LC stationary phases , and mobile phase additives .…”
