Ionic Association and Conductances of Some Symmetrical Tetraalkylammonium Perchlorates in 2-Methoxyethanol + Water at 298.15 K

Abstract: Precise conductance measurements are reported for tetraethylammonium perchlorate (Et4NClO4), tetrapropylammonium perchlorate (Pr4NClO4), and tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (Bu4NClO4) in 2-methoxyethanol (1) + water (2) at 298.15 K. The limiting molar conductivity (Λ°), the association constant (K A), and the association distance (R) in the solvent mixtures have been evaluated from the conductance−concentration data using the 1978 Fuoss conductance equation. The results have been explained in terms of ion−ion i… Show more

“…These papers concern mainly the aqueous solutions of 2-methoxyethanol. [6][7][8][9][10] Analyzing the conductometric data available in the literature, we can notice very large discrepancies. The differences between the values obtained by various authors are as high as 100 %.…”

“…In the literature, we can find only several papers on the conductometric investigations of aqueous solutions of alkoxyethanols. “…Ion-solvent interactions were extensively investigated in a number of mixed solvents using different techniques 2,3 . The aim of this work is to determine the solvation characteristic of Bu 4 4 , N,N-dimethylformamide, acetonitrile and n-butyronirile and their binary mixtures 5 . Mixtures of DMSO+MeOH are therefore expected to be good solvents for a comparative study of the solvation behaviour of tetraalkylammonium ions.…”

“…The values of molar conductivities of a set of TAA + ions with n from 1 (or 2) to 7 (or 8) are available in several solvent systems, ,,, but in the case that the viscosity is high, the Λ 0 values are rather small and relatively close to each other. The same concerns the data in nitrobenzene, 1,2-dichlorobenzene, sulfolane, ethylene glycol, and propylene carbonate .…”
