Ion Transport in MgO Porous Fibers Retained Molten Salt Electrolytes for Thermal Batteries

Abstract: In this paper, the pristine and hydrofluoric acid (HF) modified MgO porous fibers are investigated as an immobilizing agent for LiF-LiCl-LiBr molten salt electrolytes. The electrochemical performance of as prepared thermal batteries is evaluated. Compared to pristine MgO porous fibers, significantly reduced electrolyte leakages and the highest ionic conductivity (1.427 S • cm -1 ) of the electrolyte are obtained when the MgO porous fiber is modified by using 40 mol% (of the MgO fiber) HF solution. Accordingly,… Show more

“…Se sabe que el acero en el campo de la construcción e ingeniería es uno de los materiales más importantes a nivel mundial (Zeng et al, 2018). De tal modo, hoy en día se usa en la mayoría de sectores, pero entre los que más se destaca es la construcción, por tal es importante las características que posea este material (Qiu et al, 2018).…”

“…The binders serve the function of immobilizing the MSE and avoid it from overflowing at the batteries’ operating temperature. MgO 150 is an efficient binder with good stability and low solubility for molten halides and it has become the first choice for MSLB electrolyte binders, at 35–40 wt% loading. Guidotti et al 142 used 35 wt% MgO as a binder for LiCl–KCl electrolyte with FeS 2 –CoS 2 mixtures as cathodes and plasma-sprayed Li(Si) as the anode.…”
