Ion Source Multiplexing on a Single Mass Spectrometer

Abstract: We present the simple approach for the combination of different ion sources on a single mass spectrometer without any interference between them. Each ion source can be positioned as far as 1 m from the mass spectrometer; ions are transported by the means of flexible copper tubes, which are connected, to the separate inlet capillaries. Special valves enable switching channels on and off. Using this approach, we successfully combined native electrospray ionization (ESI), regular ESI, β-electrons ionization, and … Show more

“…Such diversity is highly unusual either for petroleum or wood tar, or biomass pyrolysis products, or biomass thermal liquefaction products. 2633 Mass spectra of the extracts from internal organs looked similar to those of the residue from the pottery vessel. However, we observed a considerable portion of the sodiated compounds: O 2 Na, O 3 Na, O 4 Na, O 5 Na.…”

“…For LC-MS experiments, H/D exchange was performed in the ESI source using an approach previously developed by us. The vapors of the D 2 O were infused into the heated to 300 °C desolvation capillary. The deuterium exchange occurs both in the gas phase and, because of the moisture penetration into the droplets, in the liquid phase.…”

“…Methanol (Lab‐Scan, HPLC grade) was used as a solvent for MS experiments. For measuring mass spectra a custom built QExactive Orbitrap mass spectrometer (Thermo) equipped with ion funnel and extended metal desolvating capillary and electrospray ionization source was used . Mass spectra were recorded by Orbitrap in positive ion mode with the resolving power of 140 000.…”
