Abstract:Our current understanding of ion channels has been made possible by techniques such as electrophysiology and molecular biology, but genetics‐based approaches inspired by associated diseases have pointed to regions of functional significance on the ion channels. The ion channelopathies are caused by mutations of corresponding genes or autoantibodies. Although the channels form a highly diverse group (cation, anion, voltage‐gated, ligand‐gated) and are expressed in excitable and nonexcitable tissues, underlying … Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
