Involving users in the refinement of the competency-based achievement system: An innovative approach to competency-based assessment

Abstract: This study highlights the necessary conditions for assessing the success of implementation of educational innovations. Reciprocal communication between users and developers is vital. This reflects the approaches recommended in the Ottawa Consensus Statement on research in assessment published in Medical Teacher in March 2011.

“…For those parasites with simple direct life cycles, the infective stage occurs at the transition point between the outside environment and the host. For those parasites with more complex life cycles, there are multiple arrested stages between the intermediate and definitive hosts [5]. This infective stage of directly developing parasites is non-feeding and so must subsist on internal food stores.…”

“…We carried out this study in accordance with recognised research principles, guided by other published studies with similar purposes, in order to answer the research question. 19,20 Our findings therefore may serve to inform educators, administrators, and researchers at both the local and national or international levels. In fact, we have begun a Canada-wide survey-based study of all residents with questions informed by the themes developed during this project.…”

“…There is a large need for such assessment tools in Italy. We are fully aware that this questionnaire is not the final and comprehensive answer to the issues of residents’ evaluation and that “the various domain of medical competence should be assessed in an integrated coherent and longitudinal fashion with the use of multiple methods and provision of frequent and constructive feedbacks” [1,11,38,39]. However, it is a first step towards developing a robust and standardized program for resident evaluation.…”
