Involvement of microRNA-135a-5p in the Protective Effects of Hydrogen Sulfide Against Parkinson's Disease

Abstract: Background/Aims: Development of effective therapeutic drugs for Parkinson's disease is in great need. During the progression of Parkinson's disease, Rho-associated protein kinase 2 (ROCK2) is activated to promote neurodegeneration. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has a neuroprotective effect during the neural injury of Parkinson's disease. However, the mechanisms that underlie the effects of ROCK2 and H2S remain ill-defined. In the current study, we addressed these questions. Methods: We used a 1-… Show more

“…Bromocriptine can also activate synaptic auto-receptors to sustain the normal function of the receptors, reducing the volatility of symptoms and improving the exercise capacity of patients with PD [59]. As a short-acting receptor agonist, apomorphine could be improved the activity to induce rotational behavior in rodent under stimulation of Hydrogen sulfide [60]. …”

“…The H 2 S donors include sulfide salts such as sodium sulfide (Na 2 S) and NaHS, garlic-derived compounds, and 1,2-dithiole-3-thiones [44]. Among these donors, NaHS has been widely used in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease (PD) and AD, and the concentration used in this study was selected according to previous results and other references [45, 46]. CBS mediates H 2 S biosynthesis in the central nervous system of db/db mice, and there are several ways for CBS to generate H 2 S [17].…”

“…H2S has been previously shown to resolve or attenuate inflammation in different inflammatory disorders like LPS-induced acute lung injury [26], glucose-induced cardiotoxicity [27], myocardial hypoxia-reoxygenation injury [28], and in neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson’s disease [29-31]. …”
