Arakawa et al (2004) have shown that ethylene produced in ripening apple flesh and seeds is translocated to the AZ where it acts to induce fruit abscission, so it is difficult to see how such a small change in ethylene production following application of AVG to the pedicle could potentially delay fruit drop. Our studies do suggest however, that there is an effect as fruit drop in the bagged apple only treatment (Apple only-bagged) was numerically less (P = 0.0542) than the untreated in Orchard 1 and significantly less (P = 0.0003) in Orchard 2 ( Table 2).…”
