“…According to a previous report, which investigated caveolin-1 (cav-1) in endothelial cells, PrP C is bound to cav-1 and, by recruiting Fyn kinase, can participate in signal transduction events related to cell survival, differentiation, and even angiogenesis (Massimino et al, 2002). In summary, taking our results in combination with these investigations (Massimino et al, 2002; Simak et A, primary cortical cultures were placed in a hypoxic chamber (95% N 2 and 5% CO 2 , 37°C) for 12 h and returned to a normoxic incubator (95% air and 5% CO 2 , 37°C) for different lengths of time (1, 3, 10, and 24 h), after which, total protein was extracted for Western blot analysis of PrP C . B, Densitometric analysis of the Western blot, the ratio of PrP C /actin was taken as 1 for nonhypoxic cells, which represents the control(C).ThemeanϮSEMisshown.…”

“…The growth and metastasis of prostate cancer and other tumors is dependent on the induction of new blood vessels from preexisting ones through angiogenesis (25,26). Cav-1 has been implicated in the regulation of endothelial cells proliferation, differentiation, and stabilization (6,17,27,28). In a study using Lewis lung carcinoma cells animal cancer model, cav-1 was found to be antiangiogenic factor (29).…”

“…Like other GPI-anchored proteins, PrP C has been localized to raft/caveolae-like membrane microdomains in most cell types, including neurons and cells of the immune system (Massimino et al, 2002). However, in contrast to the majority of GPIanchored proteins, which are sorted to the apical membrane of polarized cells, raft-associated PrP C was shown to be restricted to the basolateral membrane (Sarnataro et al, 2002) and/or intercellular junctions of polarized epithelial cells (Morel et al, 2004).…”
