This study investigated operational and structural health monitoring (SHM) as well as damage evaluations for building structures. The study involved damage detection and the assessment of buildings by placing sensors and by assuming weak areas, and considered situations of assessment and self-monitoring. From this perspective, advanced sensor technology and data acquisition techniques can systematically monitor a building in real time. Furthermore, the structure’s response and behavior were observed and recorded to predict the damage to the building. In this paper, we discuss the real-time monitoring and response of buildings, which includes both static and dynamic analyses along with numerical simulation studies such as finite element analysis (FEA), and recommendations for the future research and development of SHM are made.

In order to optimize the structure of wireless sensor network, an improved wireless sensor network sleep mechanism is proposed. First, some nodes in the area with too high redundancy are dormant by density control, so that the active nodes are even more distributed. Then, the active node is subjected to circular coverage redundancy decision. Different circumferential coverage decision methods are used for network boundary nodes and non-boundary nodes. As a result, the boundary nodes and non-boundary nodes are well dormant, and the network redundancy is reduced. The simulation results show that the improved dormancy mechanism makes the number of active nodes in the network smaller and more evenly, and the network lifetime is extended on the basis of maintaining the original coverage of the network. Therefore, the proposed method can achieve optimal coverage in wireless sensor networks. The network prolongs network lifetime while ensuring reliable monitoring performance.

Unattended devices may provide high resolution information about sensed phenomena at the point where sensors are arranged together. There has been a great surge of interest in WSN in recent years, concentrating on developing the required hardware, software, and networking architectures to enable such applications. A broad variety of heterogeneous remote entities and the current IP-based internet should be merged into one ubiquitous network in the ideal 4G worldview to provide transparent consumer connectivity. As a relative of the remote network, the sensor network should be organized and all IP systems will not be able to manage this new development in this work, given the main difficulties in the auxiliary architecture of IP-based and sensor systems. TCP/IP has been the genuine conventional suite for the organization of wired networks. The easiest and most convenient way to deal with TCP/IP interface systems and sensor systems is to use TCP/IP.
