Investigations on Structural and Optical Properties of Various Modifier Oxides (MO = ZnO, CdO, BaO, and PbO) Containing Bismuth Borate Lithium Glasses

Abstract: Bismuth based quaternary glasses with compositions BiBLM: 50Bi2O3–20B2O3–15Li2O–15MO (where MO = ZnO, CdO, BaO, and PbO) were processed by conventional melt quenching. The effectiveness of various modifier oxides on the optical and structural properties of the developed glasses was studied systematically by XRD, DSC, FTIR, Raman, and optical absorption (OA) measurements. The synthesized glass specimens were characterized by XRD and the patterns demonstrated an amorphous nature. The physical characteristics suc… Show more

“…The reported values of E opt and ΔE of MZLK and CZLK glass systems are comparable with similar glass systems mentioned by other researchers. 20,21,26,27 The errors in the calculation of E opt and ΔE respectively about ±0.05ev and ±0.005 eV. It can be seen from The disorder in amorphous materials is distinct from crystalline counter parts.…”

“…as 0.557, 0.561, 0.564, and 0.566 respectively. The probable reason for decrement in R L of the glasses might be due to creation of NBOs in the present glassy network [73]. However, the capability to attract electrons to itself inside a molecule describes the electronegativity (χ).…”

“…However, the capability to attract electrons to itself inside a molecule describes the electronegativity (χ). Pauling suggested that when two or more than two atoms having different values of χ then form an alloy or a compound, then a higher χ element attracts an e-pair towards itself more and acts like an anion while other elements act like a cation [72,73]. The values of χ were obtained in decreasing behaviour 1.054, 1.035, 1.024, and 1.013 respectively and this behaviour was due to the χ value of all components available in the glassy matrix.…”
