Investigations on printing path dependent properties of additively manufactured samples using micro computed tomography

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to understand the relationship between defect properties and the tool path used for generating additively manufactured parts. The correlation between processing strategy and porosity architecture is one of the key aspects for a precise understanding of defect formation and possibilities for defect reduction. Design/methodology/approach The authors present a new combined geometry, processing path and porosity analysis procedure based on the use of x-ray computed micro tomo… Show more

“…The.vtk file contains the toolpath trajectory and metadata such as the lengths of line segments, which will be discussed in this work. The G-code parsing, analysis and.vtk export is similar to the procedure described in Englert et al (2020). The software can be accessed at https://sourceforge.net/projects/ctfam/.…”

“…A computer is used to analysis the particulate projections, and therefore the procedure is called micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT). The innovation of Micro-CT and its detailed history have been described by Gapiński et al [108], Englert et al [109], Ritman [110] and du Plessis et al [111] Micro-CT is a non-destructive 3D imaging technique that has the capability to investigate the three-dimensional microstructure of complex parts. Therefore, Micro-CT is considered as a suitable method to analyses the internal structure of AM parts manufactured by FDM machine.…”
