“…It is proposed that T. evansi outbreaks in pantanal matogrossense are governed by factors such as abundance of vector population and also the presence of wildlife reservoirs and domestic carriers, including dogs (Silva et al 1995a). A study conducted in the Pantanal of Poconé (State of Mato Grosso, Brazil) detected the prevalence of the parasite in 8.6% of the examined dogs; due to close contact with horses, the dogs can be assumed as relevant reservoirs hosts in the region (Franke et al 1994). …”
