In this work, solid polymer electrolytes based on poly(e-caprolactone) (PCL) with lithium bis(oxalato)borate as a doping salt were prepared by solution cast technique using DMF as a solvent. The electrical DC conductivity and dielectric constant of the solid polymer electrolyte samples were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy over a frequency range from 50 Hz to 1 MHz. It was found that the DC conductivity increased with increase in the salt concentration to up to 4 wt% and thereafter decreased. Dielectric constant versus salt concentration was used to interpret the decrease in DC conductivity with increase in salt concentration. The DC conductivity as a function of temperature follows Arrhenius behavior in low temperature region, which reveals that ion conduction occurs through successful hopping. The curvature of DC conductivity at high temperatures indicates the contribution of segmental motion to ion conduction. High values for dielectric constant and dielectric loss were observed at low frequencies. The plateau of dielectric constant and dielectric loss at high frequencies can be observed as a result of rapid oscillation of the AC electric field. The HN dielectric function was utilized to study the dielectric relaxation. The experimental and theoretical data of dielectric constant are very close to each other at low temperatures. At high temperatures, the simulated data are more deviated from the experimental curve of dielectric constant due to the dominance of electrode polarization. The non-unity of relaxation parameters (a and b) reveals that the relaxation processes in PCL-based solid electrolyte is a non-Debye type of relaxation.

Abstract. The electric modulus properties of solid polymer electrolyte based on chitosan: AgCF3SO3 from 303 to 393 K have been investigated by using impedance spectroscopy. The shift of the M″ peak spectra with frequeny depends on the dissociation and association of ions. The lowest conductivity relaxation time τσ, was found for the sample with the highest conductivity. The real part of electrical modulus shows that the material is highly capacitive. The asymmetric peak of the imaginary part of electric modulus M″, predicts a non Debye type relaxation. The distribution of relaxation times was indicated by a deformed arc form of Argand plot. The increase of M′ and M″ values above 358 K can be attributed to the transformation of silver ions to silver nanoparticles. The complex impedance plots and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption spectroscopy indicate the temperature dependent of silver nanoparticles in chitosan-silver triflate solid electrolyte. The formation of silver nanoparticles was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The scaling behavior of M″ spectra shows that the dynamical relaxation processes is temperature independent for aparticular composition. The β exponent value indicate that the conductivity relaxation is highly non exponential.

Problem statement:The aim of this study is to develop a model for describing the effect of ion concentration on the electrical conductivity of polymer electrolytes by considering two mechanisms simultaneously: Enhancements of ion concentration and amorphous phase. Approach: The problems based on new observations in polymer electrolyte when ion concentration in the polymer electrolytes was increased, both the fraction of amorphous phase and the charge carriers increase simultaneously. The model was based on the assumption when ions were inserted into the polymer host, there was an optimum distance between ions at which the ions move easily throughout the polymer. The average distance between ions in the polymer depends on the ion concentration. And we also considered the effect of ion concentration on the amorphous phase in the polymer. Results: We inspected the validity of the model by comparing the model predictions with various experimental data. The new analytical expressions for the electrical conductivity dependent of ion concentration was developed by considering two mechanisms simultaneously in polymer electrolytes, i.e., enhancement of the carries concentration and amorphous phase fraction. Interestingly, most of fitting parameters were not arbitrarily selected, but were derived from the appropriate experimental data. Conclusion: The model can be used to explain the conductivity behavior of other polymer electrolyte systems by selecting appropriately less number of parameters. This model result is fully supported by available experimental data.
